Product overview and installer notes

The physical credential for everyone who prefers a keyring to a phone, and for cleaners, dog walkers and contractors who need access without an app tied to anyone’s account. These are 13.56 MHz MIFARE DESFire EV3 fobs with 8K of storage: encrypted, mutually authenticated, and not duplicable the way old 125 kHz fobs are. Works with the Brivo B-BS, B-BSP and B-S reader series.

Specs, firmware notes and availability change over time — confirm against the manufacturer’s current documentation before ordering.

Why EV3 fobs cannot be casually copied

The clamshell prox fobs most buildings handed out in the 2010s run at 125 kHz and transmit their number in plain air — a kiosk at the hardware store clones one while you wait. These EV3 fobs work on 13.56 MHz with encryption and mutual authentication: the fob and the reader verify each other cryptographically before the credential is accepted.

Every fob carries its own unique identifier and is enrolled in the Brivo account exactly like any other credential — scoped to specific doors and zones, disabled in a couple of clicks when it goes missing or a tenant moves out, and stamped into the event log at every use.

56-bit or 37-bit: which pack to order

The two part numbers differ only in credential format: B-BUC3-56-SF25 uses the 56-bit numbering scheme, B-BUC3-37-SF25 the 37-bit one. Which one a building needs depends on how its Brivo account numbering was configured — usually a legacy of whatever system came before. Both cost $234 MSRP per 25-pack, both read on the B-BSSF, B-BSMF and the rest of the smart reader line, and we confirm the right format during system design so the fobs work on delivery day.

Common questions about the B-BUC3 SF25

Can these fobs be cloned like old prox fobs?

No — they are 13.56 MHz MIFARE DESFire EV3 credentials with encryption and mutual authentication. What works on 125 kHz prox fobs fails here.

Which format do I need, 56-bit or 37-bit?

It depends on the credential numbering configured in your Brivo account. We check this during design; ordering the wrong format is the classic self-install mistake.

How much does one fob cost?

The pack of 25 lists at $234 MSRP, which works out to $9.36 per fob. Both formats are priced the same.

Which readers accept them?

The Brivo B-BS, B-BSP and B-S smart reader series — including every reader we stock: B-BSSF, B-BSMF, B-BSKF, B-BSPSF, B-BSPMF and B-BSPKF.

Service, upgrade and maintenance

If you already have Brivo hardware on site and the system is unstable, we can audit it, fix urgent issues and plan upgrades step by step instead of forcing a complete replacement. This includes systems originally installed by other vendors.

We offer free estimates for projects in our service area. New service clients also receive a 50% discount on the first service visit for troubleshooting and diagnostics, including systems we did not install.
