Brivo’s slimmest and most affordable reader, built for narrow frames — 13.56 MHz encrypted credentials and Mobile Pass phones in a mullion body. Sold as B-BSMF-B in black and B-BSMF-W in white.
We install and repair access control systems across Chicago, the North Shore and the northwest suburbs — ask about the B-BSMF for your
building or business.
Security projects in Chicago North Shore – homes, small business and
multifamily buildings, depending on how the system is designed.
How we use it
As part of complete systems (cameras, access control, intercoms, networking)
rather than standalone online sales.
Product overview and installer notes
At $284 MSRP this is the entry price into Brivo’s smart reader line. It reads the same encrypted 13.56 MHz smart cards and fobs as the bigger readers, takes phones over Bluetooth through Brivo Mobile Pass, and its narrow mullion body fits aluminum storefront frames and glass entries where a single-gang unit has no room to sit.

manufacturer’s current documentation before ordering.
Where a mullion reader earns its keep
Storefront doors, glass vestibules, gates with narrow posts — the mounting surfaces where a full-size reader simply does not fit. The B-BSMF is 43 mm wide, which lands it on the vertical frame of a standard aluminum door with room to spare. On new construction that keeps the entry looking clean; on retrofits it often means using the holes that are already there.
The credential side is pure 13.56 MHz: encrypted smart cards and EV3 fobs, plus phones with Brivo Mobile Pass. There is no 125 kHz radio in this one — buildings still carrying legacy prox cards should look at the tri-technology B-BSPMF, which has the same slim body with the extra radio inside.
Same rules as the rest of the line
Rain- and dust-sealed housing, so exterior gates are fair game. Read confirmations by LED and beep, a dedicated Bluetooth indicator, tamper-resistant mounting screw with its own key. OSDP to Brivo panels, Wiegand to anything else. Warranty: 5 years.
B-BSMF-B and B-BSMF-W are the same reader in black and white respectively.
Common questions about the B-BSMF
What makes the B-BSMF the cheapest Brivo reader?
It is the compact dual-technology model at $284 MSRP, reading the same 13.56 MHz encrypted credentials and Mobile Pass phones as the larger readers. What you trade away is the keypad and the legacy 125 kHz radio — if neither matters at that door, there is no reason to pay more.
B-BSMF-B vs B-BSMF-W — any difference besides color?
None. Black and white versions share every spec, the sealing, the 5-year warranty and the price.
Does it read old 125 kHz prox cards?
No. For that, the B-BSPMF tri-technology mullion adds the legacy radio in the same slim body.
Can it go outside?
Yes — it is rated for rain and dust and serves gates and exterior doors year-round.
Service, upgrade and maintenance
If you already have Brivo hardware on site and the system is unstable,
we can audit it, fix urgent issues and plan upgrades step by step instead of
forcing a complete replacement. This includes systems originally installed by
other vendors.
We offer free estimates for projects in our service area. New
service clients also receive a 50% discount on the first service visit
for troubleshooting and diagnostics, including systems we did not install.

your existing equipment, panels or racks to speed up the design and service
process.
